Jane Hambly
Jane Hambly always wanted to work in oils. She came to it describing herself as bad, and now describes herself as better, which is honest in the way that only someone who takes their work seriously would be.
She is working on loosening up, a goal she shares with several of her fellow exhibitors, though her relationship with painting has a dimension that goes beyond technique or ambition. She uses art as therapy for a long-term disability and health condition, and every class, she says, leaves her feeling calm and better able to cope with her week. That is not a small thing to say about painting, and it is not a small thing to have found.
She has been painting for under two years.
