Kitty Kelly

Kitty Kelly is the youngest voice in the collective. Born in 2006, she came to art classes with a clear purpose: to build a portfolio for her university applications. She doesn't paint in the usual class, but goes to life drawing elsewhere, which has pushed her in ways her own comfort zone never did.
She used to think of herself as a good artist, but only when she was drawing something safe and familiar. These days she's far more willing to try new mediums and subjects, and braver for it. What she loves most is drawing people and animals, especially in biro, an unfussy, unforgiving medium that suits her line.
Colour is the thing she finds trickiest, and becoming a better painter is what she's working towards. Her inspirations sit a little outside the gallery: the illustrator Karolineart, whom she follows on Instagram, and the animations of Cartoon Saloon. Life drawing still catches her out every time, she's always startled by how little time there is, and how much looser she has to draw because of it. It's the lesson she keeps relearning, and the one that's loosening her up.
