Jenny Lyons
Jenny Lyons found her way back to art through a three-day Women's Institute class, where she realised how much she'd missed simply being in an art room with other people. That was in 2017. She'd forgotten much of what she'd learned as a schoolgirl, but, as she puts it, it came back with practice.
What she loves most is sketching when she's out for the day. The result is a kind of pictorial journal, and it gives a focus to a visit, a reason to look harder at where she is. She's drawn to the way the changing seasons shape our festivities and traditions, our colours and our moods, and that sense of time turning runs quietly through what she makes.
Hers is an enviably unhurried way of working. She enjoys the process and doesn't waste time fretting over the pieces that don't come off. There's always another day, she'll tell you, always another sheet of paper. Even that first lesson back, when she discovered just how much she'd forgotten, she enjoyed it thoroughly. Succeeding, she found, didn't seem to matter all that much
