Susan Smith
Susan Smith came to painting through earlier classes before moving to Whitstable, where she picked it up again on early retirement. Six and a half years in, she describes herself as competent but still learning, which understates things: she works across multiple media, including oils, watercolour and portraiture, and has a particular fondness for animals.
Monet, Frida Kahlo and Constable sit among her inspirations, a range that tells you something about the breadth of her interests. Buildings and perspective remain the ongoing challenge, which perhaps explains why she keeps coming back to the subjects that require exactly that.
