Maggie Underwood

Maggie Underwood spent her working life in publishing, in a creative role, but it was only when she had time of her own that she could properly pursue her own artistic interests. Rediscovering those skills, she'll tell you, takes time. Nine years of classes later, she paints and draws in whatever medium takes her, experimenting freely and without pressure.
What she loves most is working from life, and particularly from moving subjects, the harder, livelier challenge of catching something that won't hold still. She counts Matisse, Hockney and Freud among the artists she admires, along with the Impressionists and a good many more besides. Like most creative people, she's chasing a perfection she knows she'll never quite reach, and she's the first to say that's exactly what keeps her going.
Ask her about the class and she'll tell you it's her happy place, a description several of the group share. Much of that comes down to the teacher, whose encouragement and enthusiasm matter as much as the teaching itself. Nine years on, that's still what keeps her coming back.
